"PITA" Launches First Co-working Space in Gaza

Gaza-(BNEWS)- The Palestinian Information Technology Association "PITA," in collaboration with the "Tasdeer" program, has inaugurated the first dedicated workspace to support the technology sector in Gaza. The event was attended by over 70 participants, both in person and virtually via Zoom.

The session featured a number of prominent figures, including funders, partners, and representatives from embassies and consulates. Mr. Tamer Baransi, Chairman of PITA, delivered a speech emphasizing that the new workspace will serve as the first hub to embrace companies operating in the sector and will be a destination for all businesses to recover and resume operations.

Mr. Naseem Noor, Director of the Tasdeer program, thanked the PITA team for their tremendous efforts in preparing the workspace, which will serve as the cornerstone for reviving and rebuilding the information technology sector and enabling other sectors to return to productivity. He also reaffirmed Tasdeer's commitment to supporting the private sector in Gaza to resume operations.

Dr. Maher Shbeir, a member of PITA's board in Gaza, highlighted in his online speech the importance of the workspace in providing empowerment opportunities for companies, stressing that despite the challenging circumstances, the workspace will open its doors to all businesses.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Ms. Huda Al-Wahidi, the Deputy Minister, emphasized the government's support for the technology sector as a strategic priority. She noted that the government is working to provide the necessary legislative and logistical environment to foster innovation and is developing reconstruction plans for Gaza.

During the event, Ms. Amani Muaddy, Director General of PITA, delivered a presentation outlining the PITA’s vision and future action plan for the workspace, which aims to promote entrepreneurship and innovation in the technology sector. She explained that the new workspace, which can accommodate up to 120 individuals daily, including high-speed internet, modern furniture, and a solar energy system to ensure uninterrupted operations.

A promotional video was also showcased, highlighting the unique capabilities of the workspace and its role as an incubator for creative ideas that support startups and entrepreneurial projects in the sector.

The event concluded with an open discussion among participants about the key challenges facing the technology sector in Gaza, with an emphasis on the importance of strengthening strategic partnerships to achieve sustainable growth.

The launch of this workspace is part of PITA's vision to promote sustainable development through technology, contribute to the reconstruction of Gaza, and create new job opportunities that will improve the economic situation in the sector.
